A True Family Home
Property refurbishment, Richmond, West London
A whole house refurbishment for an Edwardian house in Richmond upon Thames that created additional space and a more grown up, comfortable feel.
Family homes in Richmond upon Thames are highly sought-after; great big Victorian and Edwardian houses, generous gardens and all those lovely shops and green spaces! Interior designers working in this part of West London are often engaged in property refurbishments: the owners want to stay but their home needs to adapt to their changing needs.
This particular home in the St Margarets area was looking tired and the family were growing up and outgrowing the space. Music making is central to this house, cakes are baked and dirty rugby boots dragged across floors. Not to mention the amount of storage need for a family with three teenagers! It was time for a whole house refurbishment.
The advantage of bespoke interior design is an ability to incorporate the client’s tastes, interests and personality. In the case of this client, there were also paintings and prints, stringed instruments and other objects to curate and incorporate into the finished design.
To help solve the space problem we built bespoke storage wherever we could find a nook. We painted the walls a neutral but warm palette of pale yellows, greys and creams and we accessorised with charming prints, warm green textiles and the rich polished wood tones of musical instruments. The house still looks lived-in, but it is more grown up, more spacious, more comfortable and easier to live in now. It is also significantly more attractive to buyers, should the owners decide to move.
If the measure of a successful refurbishment is to create a completely fresh look for an old or lived-in property, this Richmond refurbishment succeeds on all counts – and the client agrees, describing it as a fabulous refurbishment that makes the house a great deal more marketable.
Makes our property a great deal more marketable
“A fabulous refurbishment of our family home that’s not only right for us but makes our property a great deal more marketable should we decide to sell. Since our Cathy Phillips transformation we feel really good about having visitors round and the house is a pleasure to live in.”
